“The Employee Relief Fund benefits both students and employees who have been affected by the wildfires,” Williams said.
“In the Bastrop ISD, the families of about 750 students lost their homes and about 300 of our employees lost their homes as well. We are grateful to the academy for their donation to this fund.”
Last month, members of the National Junior Honor Society at SMA joined a volunteer clean-up crew at the site of a home that was destroyed by the wildfires.
“For the kids, it was a very humbling experience,” NJHS co-sponsor Tamra Howe said. “They worked very hard and didn’t want to leave when it was time to go.”
